10 Days with GEOS Languages Plus, Toronto
1. Get an Immersive Language Learning Experience
When you study, live, and make friends in a new place, you’ll inevitably pick up the regional accent and local slang. When you’re out exploring and enjoying Toronto or relaxing with your host family, you’ll want to ask questions and have conversations. This will help keep you motivated because the whole city becomes an extension of the classroom. This kind of beyond the classroom learning is also great because it’s fun! When you’re using something all the time (even if it’s only for a matter of weeks) it stops feeling like you’re studying, and becomes just another memorable part of the adventure.
2. Get (More) Travel Confidence
‘Travel Confidence’ is all about taking the initiative to travel and feeling confident in a new place. The world is full of wonders – natural, cultural, and man-made – just waiting to be discovered! Wherever you are in the world, you’re sure to run into problems from time to time, and dealing with these little hiccups is always a big boost to self-confidence and happiness. When you study at GEOS Toronto you’ll also be able to rely on our amazing school staff and your host family for help and support whenever you need it. Toronto is a particularly great place to work on your travel confidence since we Canadians are known for our politeness and willingness to stop and help each other out. You’re also sure to feel more confident as your English language skills improve, and this is a skill that you can take with you on all your world travels.
3. Make (Lifelong) Friends
Shared experiences are the basis of some of the strongest friendships, and the friends you make when you travel will likely be your friends for life. When you live and study abroad together you’ll see each other at your best and your worst, you’ll teach each other things, you’ll share completely new experiences, and when you talk again (even if it’s been months or years) you can always reminisce about some of the most magical moments in your life together. You’ll also leave here with a network of Canadian and international friends around the world – giving you an excuse to go on more adventures!
4. Get Inspired
Everyone is creative in some area, and educational travel is one of the best ways to introduce yourself to new ideas and really jumpstart your creativity! Toronto is full of inspirational attractions and experiences. Taking time to live life will only inspire your work, whatever it happens to be.
5. Work Hard and Play Hard
Toronto is an energetic city and it’s the perfect place to learn while you work hard and play hard (whoever said you can only do one clearly doesn’t understand the energy boost you get from travelling). We always have a variety of activities available to make sure you get the most out of your GEOS experience. Study abroad and party abroad with GEOS Languages Plus!
6. Set Yourself Apart
Lots of people take language courses, and plenty of people travel, but far fewer people combine the two. Study abroad experiences look great on a resume because they show that you can be independent, take initiative, and suggest that you have something original to contribute. Toronto is also a thriving cultural hub and business centre, which makes it a great place to network.
7. Get Some Perspective
Educational travel is an opportunity to consider your life from a different viewpoint. Learning a new language and experiencing a different culture challenges your assumptions about the world and lets you step back and realize the difference between the things you want and the things you need, the things you do because you feel like you should and the things that you do because they make you happy. However your goals evolve during your trip, your GEOS family will be there to help you on your way.
8. Appreciate Home a Little More
It wasn’t until I went abroad and came home that I really started to get excited about exploring my own city and making the most of all the amazing experiences waiting for me in my own backyard. Toronto (my home) is amazing, and while I can’t wait to show it you, I also expect that living and studying here will inspire you to get to know your own home better.
9. Find Your Home Away from Home
There are many definitions for home. If you think of home as a place where you’re comfortable, where you’ve lived and grown as a person, and where you have people who care about you, then you’ll see how even a place where you’ve only spent a short time can be a second home. When you study with us you become part of the GEOS Toronto family, and we’ll always treat you like you’re coming home J
10. Get Happy :)
Learning and travelling are two of the most fulfilling things you can do, and they’re sure to contribute positively to your overall happiness. First of all there’s the happiness that you’ll feel during your adventure, and then there’s the enduring joy that you’ll carry with you. The skills you learn and the memories you make with GEOS Toronto are sure to continue to bring you happiness long after your trip has ended.
