May in Toronto was sunny and warm. Patios were opening and everywhere people were getting out and enjoying the sunshine. Our Victoria Day week-end holiday is the unofficial start of gardening season, so you can now see gardens and flowerboxes overflowing with colour and life. The weather was perfect on Mother’s Day for families to go out for brunch or take a stroll in the park with Mom.
Please meet Victor, one of our ESL instructors. Hi! I’m Victor. I’ve been working at GEOS Toronto since May 2010. I really enjoy teaching and meeting students from all over the world. I have a degree in International Studies from York University and a TESL certificate from Seneca College. I’ve lived, worked and studied in places as far away as Japan and as close to home as Quebec City. GEOS Toronto has a nice family-like atmosphere and one of my favourite school events is our monthly potluck. Yummy!
GEOS Language Academy – Toronto provides students with ample activities to make friends, explore the city, and use their English in practical real life situations. The third week of every session all students do presentations which is great practice for university or work life. Our potluck lunch is always a favourite with students as it gives them an opportunity to socialize with everyone in the school as well as sharing something from their own culture. This month’s potluck was themed “picnic” in celebration of the good weather.
During class time our students go on trips related to the course material they are studying. One of our filed trips this month was to the Toronto Reference Library. This multi-storied building houses a large collection of ESL material along with a wide assortment of other material. They even have an extensive collection of sheet music for those students who want to brush up on their favourite pop, rock or jazz song.

Currently we have 13 Nationalities represented in the school among our 73 students. We extend a warm welcome to all the students studying English with us!
Hello guys. My name is Leonardo Luiz Damico and I'm from Brazil. I quit job and stopped my study in University for came to Canada. I decided to change my life and know others cultures, and learning English. Before Canada I did know anything about English, I did know some words and "what's your name? How are you?" and nothing else. When I arrived in Canada from the beginning it was very magical to me, all very different and beautiful. It was quite difficult in the beginning because I didn't speak English anything. So, when I start my study in GEOS everything started to change, I meet many friends and with speed I started to speak English. I'm sure about this is the best time of my life, I'll never forgot.
Thank you for everyone, Thank you Teachers Leonardo Luiz Damico Brazil
Flowers everywhere! Our trusty volunteers and intern helped out the MS society in May by selling carnations around the city to raise money to fight this devastating disease. Our regular volunteering at the Toronto Blue Jays baseball games continued this month with students selling 50/50 tickets to raise money for charity. At GEOS Toronto we all care.
Don’t worry, Dads, we didn’t forget you. In May we celebrated Mother’s Day but in June the main event is Father’s Day. June 21st is also the first official day of summer so get out you bike, go for a walk or head out to a beach near you.
